Talk to Your Legal Attorney Before Talking to Adjusters |

It is highly recommended to always talk to your legal attorney before you talk to any insurance company representative or adjuster. Speaking to your legal attorney first can give you information, which will be useful both immediately and long term as you deal with multiple issues surrounding being involved in a car accident. Sometimes however, before you talk to your legal attorney, the adjuster calls you, or the adjuster may even, outrageously, come to your house without calling you.
Insurance companies are not your friends. Their only goal is to save money, not to give it to you, whether or not you are entitled. They will stall, delay, and often tell you things that have various levels of truth, and often fail to tell you things you should know.
An important point to note is that when you do receive a call you should identify if it is your policy and your insurance company or theirs.
Most people who are injured, amazingly are more concerned about their car and its repair than they are about their own injuries. First calls from the other person's insurance company typically have the goal of settling your injury claim with you pronto. Don't!!!
Some injuries do not say hello to you until after the adrenaline rush from the car accident had dissipated. The insurer "early settlement" tactics include offering you a small amount of money for your suffering, such as $500-$1000, and then promising you they'll pay for medical bills up to $1000 or $2000 if you need care over the next six months. The figures could be higher or lower, but the point is clear, they are trying to get out fast and cheap, before the full extent of the damages are known. |
